This policy explains what data Builtplain (builtplain.com) collects, why, and your choices. It was last updated on July 23, 2026. Questions or requests: [email protected] with "Privacy" in the subject.
What we collect
- Membership data. If you create a free account, we store the email address and optional name you provide, so we can sign you in (via emailed login links) and operate comments. We do not sell this data.
- Comments. Comments you post are stored with your member profile and displayed publicly on the article.
- Technical logs. Like nearly all websites, our infrastructure (including Cloudflare, which provides our network security and delivery) processes IP addresses and request data to serve pages and prevent abuse.
- Cookies. We use strictly necessary cookies to keep members signed in. We do not currently run third-party analytics trackers.
We email members only for account function (login links) and, if you opt in, new-article updates. Transactional email is delivered via our email provider (Brevo). Every non-essential email includes an unsubscribe path.
Advertising
Builtplain does not currently display advertising. If we introduce ads in the future (for example via Google AdSense), third-party vendors, including Google, would use cookies to serve ads, and Google's use of advertising cookies would enable it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You would be able to opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. We will update this policy before any advertising goes live, and EEA, UK and Swiss visitors will be shown a consent mechanism where required.
Your choices and rights
- You can delete your account (and with it your membership data) from your account panel, or by emailing us.
- You can request a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal data at any time by email; we honor requests regardless of where you live.
- You can read everything on this site without an account.
Data sharing and retention
We share data only with the processors needed to run the site (hosting, network delivery, email delivery), each bound by their own data protection terms. We retain membership data while your account exists and technical logs briefly for security. We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Children
This site is general-audience business writing and is not directed at children under 16; we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
