What we collect
- Membership data. If you create a free account, we store the email address and optional name you provide so we can sign you in and operate comments. We do not sell this data.
- Comments. Comments you post are stored with your member profile and displayed publicly on the article.
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits, traffic sources, devices, approximate geography, and interactions such as article completion, search opens, calls to action, and partner-link clicks. Recognized referrals from AI assistants may be recorded by source. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers. Builtplain does not send your membership email or comment text to Google Analytics.
- Technical logs. Our infrastructure, including Cloudflare and our web server, processes request data needed to serve pages, diagnose problems, measure aggregate traffic, and prevent abuse. Our local traffic log omits visitor IP addresses, query strings, cookies, authorization headers, and private account or administration routes, and is rotated after seven days.
- Cookies and local storage. Strictly necessary cookies support sign-in and site functions. Analytics and advertising providers may use their own cookies or similar technology.
We send account messages needed for sign-in and, where you have subscribed or another lawful basis applies, publication updates. Transactional and publication email may be delivered through Brevo. Non-essential publication email includes an unsubscribe path.
Analytics, advertising and partner links
Google Analytics is provided by Google. You can learn how Google handles information from sites that use its services in Google’s partner-sites notice and use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Article and archive pages may load advertising supplied by Adsterra and Infolinks. Those providers may process device, browser, network, cookie, and interaction data to deliver, secure, and measure advertising under their own privacy terms. Some recommendations are partner links; if you use one, Builtplain may receive a commission, and the destination site applies its own privacy policy.
Your choices and rights
- You can delete your account and membership data from your account panel or by emailing us.
- You can request a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal data by email.
- You can unsubscribe from non-essential publication email using the link in each message.
- You can read public articles without an account and control optional cookies through your browser and available provider controls.
Data sharing and retention
We share data with processors needed to run the publication, including hosting and network delivery, authentication and comments, analytics, advertising, and email delivery. We retain membership data while your account exists, retain local privacy-reduced traffic logs for up to seven days, and retain other records only as needed for the purposes above. We do not sell or rent membership data.
Children
This site is general-audience business writing and is not directed at children under 16; we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be posted here with an updated date.
