Sourcing
Factual claims, prices, fees, statistics, policy terms, are verified against primary sources (official documentation, company pricing pages, regulators, original research) before publication, and we state the date figures were checked. Community discussions and social posts are used to identify real reader problems, never as the basis for factual claims.
AI assistance
We use artificial intelligence to help organize research and draft articles. Every article is reviewed by a human editor before publication: sources are opened and verified, unsupported statements are removed, and the final analysis is human-approved. AI is never listed as an author, and AI output is treated as an unverified draft, not a source.
Bylines
Builtplain is written under a small set of recurring pen names, each covering a consistent beat. The pen names are disclosed as such on their author profiles; behind them, one accountable human editor reviews, verifies and approves everything we publish. We claim no credentials we do not hold.
Corrections
When we learn of a material error, we correct it promptly and add a correction note where the original error could have misled readers. To report an error, contact the editor at the address on the About page or reply to any of our posts.
Independence
We disclose any affiliate or commercial relationship in the article where it applies. Comparisons state their methodology and the date checked. If we have no relationship with a product mentioned, we say nothing because there is nothing to say.
